United States had asked Britain to conduct the meeting of the 17-member Major Economies Forum (MEF, by its initials in English) that convened earlier this year to create an informal forum in which to discuss climate issues in London on 18 and 19 October.
Discussions take place within two months that some 190 nations meet in Copenhagen in December to agree a successor pact emission controls known as the Kyoto Protocol.
The MEF will cover most of the climate issues discussed at the official talks under the Framework Convention on Climate Change United Nations (UNFCCC by its initials in English) before Copenhagen, but not be an official part of the negotiations, said the Department of Energy and Climate Change in Britain in a statement.
However, we will provide a valuable contribution to Copenhagen if countries developed and developing countries reach an understanding and build consensus on some general principles, he added.
delegates are currently meeting in Thailand to hold talks with two weeks to agree the framework demanding a pact to replace the Kyoto Protocol.
An Energy Department spokesman said the MEF is likely to meet again after the London meeting and maybe once more in the eve of talks in Copenhagen.
